Mild steel sheets from 1 mm and heavy MS plate up to 100 mm, cut to your requirement — supplied to fabricators, workshops and contractors nationwide.
MS (Mild Steel) sheet is flat carbon steel with a low carbon content, typically under about 0.25%. That low carbon level is what gives mild steel its defining quality: it is soft enough to cut, bend, drill and weld with ordinary workshop equipment, without the pre-heating or special electrodes that higher-carbon steels demand.
The distinction between ‘sheet’ and ‘plate’ is one of thickness rather than material. Thinner material is produced by cutting hot rolled coil to length and is sold as sheet; heavier material is rolled directly as discrete plate and handled as a separate product. We stock sheet from 1 mm up to 12 mm, and MS plate from 12 mm through to 100 mm for heavy structural and pressure work.
It carries a mill-scale surface from hot rolling and is not corrosion resistant on its own, so it is normally painted, galvanized or otherwise coated in service. Where a smooth surface or a tight thickness tolerance is needed, cold rolled sheet is the alternative.
